Lean Manufacturing Engineer—5S & KANBAN

INTRODUCTION: This position reports to the Plant Manager. It is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties and has authority delegated commensurate with assigned responsibilities.

LEAN MANUFACTURING ENGINEER – Professional with experience in lean manufacturing with specific skill set in 5S and KANBAN implementation. This role identifies and facilitates the implementation of process improvements and cost savings opportunities aligned with key business objects.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Include, but are not limited to:
a) Initial primary responsibility will be implementing a sustainable 5S system plant wide from individual work stations to various inventory streams.
b) Secondary responsibility is the implementation of Kanban’s for various products and materials plant wide to reduce overbuilds/shortages create visual and organized factory floor, and level schedules.
c) Conduct and implement lean manufacturing principals and procedures including but not limited to time studies, line balancing, capacity studies, changeover improvements, value stream maps, etc…
d) Track, measures and reports results of improvement initiatives.
e) Acts as a change agent to identify and drive continuous improvement projects that realize cost savings for the organization.
f) Ability to successfully lead and assist other departments with the proper training and execution of lean goals and processes to various production and non-production departments.
g) Report to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards
h) Ongoing - must be able to continuously drive standard plant and lean transformation activities.

a) Lean Manufacturing experience and proven success in areas of defining and setting up 5S and Kanban in a manufacturing plant to TPS (Toyota Production System) standards or similar.
b) Excellent problem solving, self-initiator, communication and leadership qualities.
c) Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
d) Formal lean manufacturing training, required.
e) Good analytical and problem solving skills with a focus on results (driving to root cause).
f) Comply with quality, environmental and safety policies and procedures.
g) Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and CAD software (plant layouts).
h) The role is a hands on position.
i) Excellent oral, verbal and written communication required.
j) Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in various positions to include but not limited to; kneeling, standing, stooping, twisting, bending.
